Expert Advice on Staying Fabulous All Day
Solitude Mountain Resort, UT

As summer changes (slowly….. wasn’t it like 97 in Salt Lake this weekend?!?!) into fall, we all still do our very best to be outdoors. At least I do. Like every minute when that sun is shining, I want to be basking in it. Especially, for any special occasion, like, say, your wedding :) Outdoor fall weddings might be one of my favorites. Especially here in Utah. The bright colors, the crisp air. Man, they are almost just as fabulous (if not slightly more) as those gorgeous outdoor summer weddings. To be honest, I think I’d take either. Crisp bright fall outdoor weddings, or warm sunny summer outdoor weddings. Favorites. But, those gorgeous outdoor weddings have just one slight annoyance.ย ย Sometimes itโ€™s hot or windy or sprinkly (or HOT) which makes keeping your hair & make-up gorgeous a challenge. So, since I know I love to stay looking amazing during any outdoor wedding, weโ€™ve asked Make-Up Artist, Janelle Ingram of Versa Artistry for a few tips on staying fabulous all day for that gorgeous outdoor wedding.

With her advice, you’ll have a look that will stay put all day long. And seriously, bride or not, who doesn’t want to stay looking amazing? right?!

Question: How do I keep my face from getting shiny if we plan on taking pictures before the ceremony?

Tip #1: To keep your face from getting shiny, make sure to have a touch up kit that includes powder and a lipstick. Right before you take pictures or before your ceremony do a quick touch up to get rid of any shiny areas and get your lip color back to fabulous.

What if I get sweaty or start to tear up?

Tip #2: Bring a tissue with you and dab away any tears, or sweat, instead of wiping. Wiping = smears. Dabbing = fabulousness.

I selected a color popping style for my eyes, do you have tips for keeping it put throughout the entire day, even if I (maybe) start crying?

Tip #3: No matter how much eye popping color you have on โ€“ if you start tearing up during pictures or just lose it during the ceremony, simply let it fall. Be in the moment. (That’s better anyways, right?) Besides, the minute you start wiping your eyes things will start smearing. Just grab that tissue and dab. If you want to avoid tearing up, try to breathe deeply through your nose and close your eyes. It helps.

What types of styles are the most durable for an outdoor wedding?

Tip #4: If you are getting married outdoors keep in mind that you will be out in the elements when choosing your hair style. Having your hair down can make you hot, sweaty, or look wind-blown. Instead try a beautiful up do with your hair pulled back or to the side. A trendier option is a bun on top of your head. These alternatives will keep you cooler, help stop sweaty hair, and will even help with it getting in your face on a windy day.

How do I help my fab lip color to stay? Do you have tips if the photographer has us kiss during pictures?

Tip #5: Keeping your lip color perfect during all the kissing pictures is simple. Make sure your soon to be husband wears chapstick and both of you lick your lips right before kissing. This will help keep your lip color on you instead of your hubby-to-be.

How do I make sure my down style stays curled in the heat?

Tip #5: If you do want to wear your hair down and curly make sure you use a good product. A good mouse to use is Davines No. 3 Universal Mattering Mousse. It will hold your curl all day. Also a good hair spray to keep it in place is smart.

How do I make sure my updo stays fab even if it’s windy and hot?

Tip #6: For an updo on a windy day make sure and tell your stylist to use bobby pins to keep it in place.

Bottom line: Bobby pins and hair spray will be your best friend.

What hair styles are trending right now for outdoor weddings?

Tip #7: High buns, Messy side buns and braids. Braids are especially great to keep bangs out of your face.
